Family's Halloween Display Sparks Controversy In New Jersey Community
BELLMAWR, N.J. -
Halloween is right around the corner, and many take the time to decorate for the occasion with ghosts and goblins outside their homes. However, in one New Jersey community, some neighbors think one family's design is more than just spooky. Residents describe it more as creepy.
“I like to see witches, you know goblins and ghosts, not hanging babies," said neighbor Toni Flaherty.
The dangling dolls with ropes around their necks and blood like marks on their bodies are part of an elaborate Halloween display on Thomas Street in Bellmawr, New Jersey. Residents do not have any bones about the ghosts and ghouls, but the dolls are a different story.
It seems a number of neighbors are unhappy about what they consider hanging horror, including one woman who doesn't want to be identified.
"It's not scar, It's gross. It's disgusting. It's horrible," she said.
Don't tell that to the Krueger kids. Yes, that is their last name, so it's no surprise Halloween is the family's favorite holiday. They spent an entire day putting together the creepy creation, and they are particularly proud of it.
"It's hilarious and funny and scary all in one," said 10-year-old Lily Krueger.
Her brother agrees.
"I just love Halloween because it's just so much fun to get scared and let yourself go," said 8-year-old Greg.
Lily and Greg do not understand why some people find the babies so disturbing.
"I think I just want to have fun on Halloween. I think it's a cool decoration, maybe they don't think it is, but I do," said Greg.
Their dad says it's all just harmless Halloween fun.
"This is what scary is today. I don't think people realize that. This is what the kids are into-- The Conjuring, Annabelle," said Chris Krueger.
Some neighbors think the display is disturbing and should be taken down.. The Krueger's say they're not scared by a little controversy and the babies are staying.
