CAL GRADUATION CONTROVERSY: TV host Bill Maher is no stranger to controvey. But his most recent controversial comments about Islam, prompted students at UC Berkeley to launch an effort to get him removed as this December's commencement speaker.
Earlier this month on his HBO show, Maher described Islam as “the only religion that acts like the Mafia, that will... kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture or write the wrong book."
The student spear-heading the effort told a bay area newspaper, "People say he has the right to freedom of speech, and I agree with that. The problem is that when you bring him to the university, you're pretty much putting him into a privileged position. You're raising his voice."
